We Have a Galentine’s Day Victor!

Never underestimate the power of a girl gang out to have a good night. The Galentine’s Day Challenge received a flood of applications, but only one lucky gal secured the chance to take celebrating “only the best day ever” with her squad to the next level.

Meet Danielle Young, Winner of the Galentine’s Day Challenge

You may know her from her candid and viral red carpet clips, her powerful sit-down interviews, or from her way-too-funny and honest pop culture commentary. You may have seen her matter-of-fact opinion video series on The Grio, “Opinionated,” or her hilarious and Webby-honored “Judge of Characters” series videos from The Root. You may have watched her often viral interview series, “Real Quick,” or what Forbes calls a viral hit show, “The Danielle Young Show.”

Danielle also created and produced the ESSENCE video series, “We See You Sis,” “The B-Side,” “The Black Effect” and more, filling ESSENCE’s video roster with recording-breaking video views.

How Flicks, Friends, and $2,000 Made for an Unforgettable Night

Danielle started off the challenge by choosing the chick flicks she and her friends would watch: Clueless, Girl’s Trip, and Fried Green Tomatoes. As she and her gals dove into the films, they were tasked with putting the characters under the microscope and determining which of the female protagonists they most identified with. (In case you were curious: in Fried Green Tomatoes it was Idgie Thredgoode, Girl’s Trip had them siding with Dina, and they chose Dionne when watching Clueless.)

But perhaps the most enjoyable result of Danielle’s experience was her takeaway regarding the power of friendship, and what her own gals mean to her: 

“There’s just something about creating friendships that stand the test of time and, well, anything really! Being down for your girls no matter what, no matter how you disagree—that’s friendship!”
